Default Bilstein shock serial #?

I have been monitoring some of the posts concerning shock replacement. I have an 87 coup with the Z52 suspension package. This includes, among other things, Bilstein shocks. The serial # on the rear shocks is 540 1023w00. Is there some way I can tell their age, or if these are original equipment by this number? I have emailed Bilstein at their site and have, as yet, received no response. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I may be wrong about this but, if the yellow Bilsteen shocks say AC Delco on them they are the originals.
If they just say Bilsteen they are replacements.

With that being true [?] at least you will know if they are the originaals or not.

You should have a B followed by a few numbers which will give you the model of the shock.

Yes, they do say Delco Bilstein. Probably time to replace them. It has only been 19 years and almost 80k. I don't guess they owe me anything anymore.

Don't throw the originals out, put them in a corner in your garage.
Someone may want to buy them for NCRS judging, as they are judging from 1989 back.

NCRS is the 'National Corvette Restorers Society'.

That's a part number, not a serial number, BTW.

Maybe that explains why I have not heard back from Bilstein. Thanks for the info.
