Default LT4 Hotcam?

I've got a 96 model LT-1 with the automatic transmission. 137k on the clock, and it doesn't seem to use any oil. However, it does leak oil all over the ground. It seems like a lot of oil, but I don't add any between changes yet. Anyway, I'm starting to get concerned that I'm going to be driving down the road and something is going to blow out.

The Chevy dealer told me I needed a complete reseal and said it would run me $2,200. I'm sure that most of the oil is either coming from the rear main or the rear intake (I understand these are common). I imagine I could get both of those fixed for around $500 from a local mechanic I know and trust.

Here's where the questions come in... Do you think it would be possible to take it to someone who really knows what they are doing, and get the reseal as well as some performance add-ons for the $2,200? And If I were to do the LT-4 Cam swap, how much am I looking at for parts, what else would I need, and would the automatic transmission have any trouble handling the extra power?

Thanks in advance.
