I lost control of the corvette lost around a turn. The gas readout said 3/5ths. Then went less than an eigth of a tank. Car had no gas stopped then came back on at that time forcing to backend to breakout and hit a guard rail. Anyone else ever have any problems with this? The rear ends a little beat up but no major damage overall. Just needs a little bondo job.

Help me understand your question. Your going around a turn and watching the fuel guage? Is this an agressive turn that causes the fuel level to change? How much fuel was really in the tank?
Makes me kinda mad that it happened. The people who saw it thought it was going to be alot worst. I'm glad I kept it to a minimum, that is a brand spanking new rear end. Same with the paint job on the car, just happy it wasnt totalled. I hear so many stories of how freshly painted cars are t-boned and totalled.

Same here. I accelerated hard into a turn with a low tank once and the car just died. I knew immediately what it was. Sorry about your crash. I know you hate going to the garage and seeing that.
When I get close to empty and I make a left hand turn kind of fast (Or a long left banking curve) my motor shuts off. It has happend twice so far. At that point I know that I am about to run out of gas. (Not that I have done that with the 89, I only run out in the 76.)
The gas gauge in the C4 is a bit tricky. It goes from 1/4 tank to empty in almost no time. If you are getting near a 1/4 it's best to get gas.
When I first got my Vette (89) I ran out of gas with the guage still showing 1/4 tank. I thought I had a problem with my guage. So that's normal for c4s?
You aren't kidding. I get roughly 300 miles a tank - 200 miles on the first quarter, 80 on the next two quarters and 20 on the last quarter.
Ditto - except I get about 400-425 to tank in my '88 (mostly highway driving - but that last quarter is about the same.
So in other words when the RESERVE light comes on its more for comic relief than a warning? Only got there once and I was worried about the 6 blocks to the station.
You can't fix that with bondo. That huge crack is just going to get worst with stress and vibration. Covering it over with bondo with not work. It requires special SMC adhesive materials to repair something like that. I think you may be look at the rear clip or cut in a new rear quarter. The process they use to glue the two pieces back together is the same SMC adhesive. It's made by 3M 8227.

Glad your ok. Sorry about the vette.
Check with the corvette junkyards first if you're trying to fix it cheap. If you aren't fix it right and get a new clip and quarter. Just dont bondo it. It will look bad, and it wont last. If you cant fix it right now, it would be better just to leave it alone than to bondo it IMHO.
