Confession time
What have you done to a Corvette that you regretted:
I'll confess. I got in an accident with my 65 vert. After the body shop fixed it I had a vibration where the shift lever would "buzz" against the console. Being a poor E4 at the time I took it to the "do-it-yourself" shop on base and redrilled/tapped the rear tranny mount after using a jack to push the rear of the tranny a bit to the left.
This was in 1967 and I still feel like a jerk for doing that.
Flash forward to the early 90s when I had an 86 coupe: The local GM dealer diagnosed my ABS light as a bad module. I was selling Real Estate at the time
and my income was swinging all over the place. I just pulled the bulb so the dash light would go out and went on my merry way. The brakes worked fine, but not the ABS. The dealer I bought it from told me that the dash light was an indication that the system was functioning OK. This was pre-Forum days so I had no info to go on. I later sold the car to a guy who bought it for his mistress and never told him about it.
Several years later I saw the car at a show and shine and talked with the current owner (not the guy I sold to) and confessed all. He appreciated me being able to tell him the history of the car.

My very last accident, and the last time I made a claim on my car insurance: 36 years ago, in a '68 427" coupe.
I didn't have the money to fix it, and Pops told me to take a walk, so I traded even with a friend for his '67 blue Vert.
They say ,'your only young once'--good thing for that
The only think I've done to my '88 that I quickly regretted was to have a new 2,000rpm TC installed with the recent A4 rebuild.
This one does not allow me to brake stand to 1,800rpm like the prior unit and that has killed my launch. If I had known more about TCs I'd have had the prior one cleaned and rebuilt.
Upon reassembling my intake on the 89 I discovered the drivers side rear plenum blot threads are almost nonexistent, used a bit of silicone on it. I'll walk out in front of traffic before taking it apart again
My first vette was an 89 that I bought new. 5 trannys in 4 months, Chevy bought it back. I then bought a 90 6speed, 21 yrs old + 12 pack+ back road in new 6 speed = road rash. Flipped the car over running 90 without a seat belt. The car with 4500 miles on it. Traded the wreck even for a new camaro. Fifteen years later I still hate myself..
Drilling holes in the front so i could put on my front license plate.
I regret i had to do it, but i was tired of worrying about being pulled over for a dumb thing like no front plate.
It pained me to do that, and i hope i never have to again.
" . . . drilling holes . . . " ? This needs further explanation.
There were never any mounting holes for the front license plate.
Apparently, the person who had my car before me never put on a front license plate.... The "corvette" cover was on there... but when i took it off to put on my front license plate, there weren't any holes available where i could actually mount my license plate... so i had to drill 2 holes to put it on---(there were outlines for where the holes should be).
oh where do i start. back in 1972 i was an e2 and traded a new 1000 mile vega for a used 66 coupe and gave 500.00 to boot! but then i cut out the rear wheel wells for larger tires, installed headers, traded the engine i blewup for another e2s 67 engine (he had wrapped his maroon 67 around a tree or telephone pole) kept it until 1980 but put it all back to stock before i sold it. wonder what ever happend to that car. it was a 66 coupe with a 327 auto trans in yellow with black leather, teak wheel, power steering and brakes. sold it up here in wisconsin.still have a picture of it with the rear wheel wells cut out of it!!!
