Sometimes, when shifting from 1st to 2ndgear, the overdrive will kick in even though I haven't engaged it. I've also noticed the button is very sensitive. You brush your hand against it and it activates it.

Is there any kind of linkage or adjustment that can be made? My thought being the linkage is too short and when I shift it engages the overdrive. To be honest, I don't even know if there is any linkage in there, or if it is electronic or what. Any help would be appreciated.

thanks in advance from a newbie C4 owner and member.

Probably a bad switch. The overdrive is a combination electronic/gas pedal position sensor/vacuum actuated device. No mechanical linkage, Just some cables attached to a plate up by the TB where the gas pedal cable attaches.

I have the same problem with an 88 conv. Do you know what this switch is or how difficult it is to repair it? The dealer does not know how to fix because their service manuals only go back to 92.

Is there any easy way to override the overdrive altogether?

I'm not familiar with the '88 switch (That's in the shifter, isn't it?).
My '85 switch is on the console.

To disable it, look for the cable attachment that runs from the throttle body down to the transmission. You can disconnect that cable by the TB to disable it.

Thanks for the info so far. I don't think I want to disable it as I do a lot of highway driving.

Once it gets cold here in the Northeast (it was 65 in Connecticut today) I plan on storing it in the garage. I'll try taking it apart to see what I can find. I was hoping for some advice on where to start.

The '88 switch is in the shifter.
i have not had to fix mine, but in the past year or so there have been posts on how to fix and how to bypass.
i would search the c4 tech section on 4+3 bypass, Doug Nash and 4+3 overdrive to see if you can find the posts..
