My 1990 Coupe with a L98 is strictly stock. Its only got about 35K miles and it's been well taken care of. Before I got it I was told by my bro in law he reached 165 on a Kansas flat highway, does any body know what my actual top speed should be ? Is he full of B.S. ? I've never pushed it over 115.

When my intake was stock, my top speed was 155 mph. When I put the SuperRam on + my custom pcmforless.com chip tune, the fastest I have taken it was 167 mph. That is with 3.07 gears and my motor was turning 4700 rpms. I've got to find the video on my computer. It was on putfile for awhile. When I find the link, I'll post it here.

on the stock figure. I was going to say 155 at the most.

my answer is it doesnt have enough power to push the car to 165.
when mine was stock it did around 154MPH, and after exhaust it did around 157MPH. my grandma was driving.
I'm willing to bet that most of the stock wornout L98's here might go 140 on a good day, mine included. Wish there was somewhere around I could find out
Assuming your '90 is bone stock with an A4, 2.59 gears and relatively new stock tires you would have to spin that L98 to 5,900rpm in 3rd gear to hit 165mph.
If he had the shifter in 3rd and held the accelerator down long enough it's possible that it would pull that high but it would be a long time going from 140mph to 165mph.
The stock intake is truly a restrictive one. I noticed power loss after about 4000 rpms. Once a SuperRam is installed, it felt like the motor was breathing better up top with no noticeable loss of torque on the bottom. Took it to 160 mph many times. Further porting and polishing the inside of the plenum and runners, larger TB and a chip tune yielded a 167 mph top speed, hopefully with no hills involved! It was videotaped and the last thing I said on it was, "Man we are f***ing flying!!

It did take big *****, but it is not to happen again until they grow back to size. At least there is no one out on the toll roads @ 3:00 am. Didn't even see a single pair of headlights that whole time I was going that fast!

My stock '88 did 132 and seemed to have more to go, but I chickened out.
I think they are good till 140-145, with the right road conditions.
