Camaro unit will not shift into OD at wide open throttle.
Also, different tail housing, different output shaft, different pump pressure spring, tv spring (I think), valve body, governor, case, servo, torque converter, accumulater springs, etc. This is not to say that a camaro trans will not work. It can bolt in but will have different "character" than a vette trans. You must cut down the output shaft, change tail housing and relocate the speedo drive gear at an absolute minimum. I have a vette trans for sale th c4 sale section. It is a vette trans. Not a converterd trans.
I took an 87 cargo van trans and reworked it to c4 standards. He is very happy with it. It seems the vette cores are selling for $500. That is if you can get them. Now that I learned the tricks, I won't be buying vette cores anymore. Unless they are priced right.
Whats the procedure for the van t'mission conversion, what parts are required, any pictures?
I have not figured out how to post pics. At age 38 I am not too computor savy. The trans case is basically the same, as are the major internal components. On the unit I installed a vette servo, vette governor, modified the outputshaft and relocated the speedo gear. Installed the correct tailhousing, b&m shift kit, transgo seperator plate, vette shift linkage lever, etc. The only thing I did not install(per customer) was the wot 4th gear upshift valve. He felt it was not wort doing. He uses the car as a daily driver and a weekend drag car. GM intentionally installed the wot valve in police cars and vettes only. It pounds the 3/4 clutch pack hard and helps kill the trans early. Contemporary Corvette wanted $500 for a core. We bought a $125 junkyard van core and spent another $200 on vette specific parts. Saved him money in the long run. It also saved him a 2 hr drive and fuel/tolls to get it.
