Ups Store

Second, I do work for UPS and Central Coaster is correct, they pay us well, but treat us like crap. Know that any damages that occur do not happen from people dropping, throwing, kicking. They occur in transit usually when a heavier box is either placed or falls on top of one, or it falls from the shelf or the top of the heap. Trailers get packed up then packed out.
Larger items go in last and as low as possible.
Third, claims are paid to the shipper, it is the shippers responsibility to reimburse the buyer.
If someone sells you an item and it is damaged in transit and UPS pays the claim to the shipper, he should do one of two things:
Refund you, or send a duplicate item.
UPS denies a lot of claims for the main reason that people were ripping us off. They would send broken items in well packed boxes and get money for it. Or they would pack good items in crappy boxes and then they would get damafed.
I see DHL,Fed Ex and the USPS everyday(we all seem to end up at the same location delivering stuff), I see the insides of their trucks, they are no different than mine(excpet that I have more packages).
Fourth, The UPS STore Franchise is owned by UPS, but each individual store is owned by a private person who is not connected with the corporation except for being a franchisee. UPS regulates the operation of each UPS Store, but the owners are responsible for the actual operation and insurance and their own packaging.
They use peanuts for 90% of their packaging. In most cases they overstuff and they always use new boxes, so in most cases, a package sent through the UPS STore arrives in good condition.
Since the insurance is their responsibility, they don't want to pay claims either, so they pack as well as they posibly can.
Everyone else who brings a package in to one of these type places who has packed it himself should know the proper methods for packing a box properly, but unfortunately not everyone does. But by accepting the package, the UPS STore becomes responsible at that point since they chose to accept it.
When I pick up packages, I'll refuse to pick up boxes if they are questionable. This is the only way to teach the public. You have to inform them up front that if you take a particular package that is questionable that the claim may be denied if there is one filed.
With all the fraudulaent acts taking place in this country it's no wonder the insurance companies are reluctant to pay up, well that and they are simply greedy for the free money.
In closing, I will add that if you wish to bring this subject up again, please do so in Off Topic.
