This one is cool too. Even gives you tips on getting out of speeding tickets. And it's by a cop...

Well that "cop" written ticket website isn't with out a few errors:

Third, the concept of radar... radar is much more accurate against curved shapes (like 747's or Corvettes) but against a "boxy" shape like the F-119 "box" Stealth Fighter, or a nice "rectangular" truck, radar will not be as effective.
Aahh, NO! Our vettes are some of the more difficult vehicles to get a radar reading on. (Flat nosed Semi-Trucks are the best).

Well I imagine if you raise the speed limits then revenue would decrease... Most likely the reason IMO on why speed limits are set the way they are...

The auto bon proved that years ago.
The bon is the safest hwy in the world and the adverage speed is 120 mph.
You have to remember that if a doctor cured you he would never make any money ,that is why it is called medical practice, and why do they call it LAW practice.
It's all money.People don't change the laws do.

The point is that objects with leading edges perpendicular to the source will have high radar cross sections. Flat surfaces are great, if they aren't perpendicular to each other or to the source.

Think of glare off a curved windsheild, you'll see the sun reflection easily while standing in bunch of different locations. On a flat windshield, there's only one place to stand to see that refelction.

to a point

Pickup trucks are harder to spot, because of the grill. Radar waves do not bounce off the grill like the front of the vette, hence the returning wave cause problems for the radar and cause the radar to not get as accurate a return as it would for a solid object. The F-117 and B-2 have grills over there intakes for this reason. I know Florida was considering to lower speed limits earlier this year not only because of accidents, but also for fuel converation. And a national transportation study found as I recall that for every 5 mph over 60 you go that your chance of surviving in a accident start going down. This was a study of head on and I did not state the percentage because I do not remember, but I do remember that under 60 mph the chance of survival was something like 50 or 60 %.

I get 29 mpg now with my zf6 and 3.07 rearend at 85mph. Does that mean I should speed up to save gas?

Very seldom do you see wrecks on the autobahn as compared to the interstates here. They also have a very intense driver education program that is sorely lacking here. In Georgia, there is NO driver education program for the new drivers.

I was always under the impression that the speed limits on the interstate were ultimately driven by the Department of Energy. Didn't they lower the speed limits down to 65 on the Interstates and 55 on most highways back during the energy crisis?

That mythbusters show was a joke. The functional laser jammers reduce the distance at which lidar can be used. Mythbusters testing was too close to the car to show any improvement. I don't recall what exact distance they used something like 1000 ft?, but my V1 can pick up signals from 1.5 miles away.

Obviously all the other gimmicks they tried were useless.

If I paid attention properly to the Modern Marvels show, the Autobahn is safe, it also costs $1500 to get a licence and the first time you are caught tailgating, passing on the right, or failing to stay right, it is gone. Laws are very strictly enforced.

On our highways, speed does not kill. It is the difference in speeds that does.

Also remeber that all top end car racing (IDY,CART,NASCAR,FUEL Dragsters) are limited because the speeds they would run unconstrained is just too dangerous.

In most cases, traffic law enforcement is about safety. Except maybe in Tuxedo NY.

Ah c'mon! Where's the love?

For what its worth, I do traffic tickets for clients but certainly don't seek them out - you really can't make money defending tickets - its a courtesy to clients.

No objection here if they rasie the speed limit, provided they get tougher on the BAD drivers.

Thank you! In MN, they tried something interesting. They increased the speed limit on many urban roads to 60mph and more strictly enforce it (including minimums). The idea is to get traffic going the same speed. MN is notorious for 4 lane hiways. This resulted in 2 lanes; the Alzheimer's Lane and the NASCAR Lane. Wide left shoulders often become passing lanes...

Amen - nothing worse than the self declared speed ****'s who insist on drive the speed limit, or less, in the left and middle lanes.

I've been saying for some time now that I'd like to rig up a "James Bond" paintball gun at the front of my car - dodder along in the left lane and "SPLAT"
