I had a 95 I bought wrecked and repaired. After relacing both bags the light would not reset till the Derm was replaced. Also you don't need to buy the kit. All it does is ground out the terminal. Go to the C4 tech tips, there is a write up for the 90 light. It worked for a car I was working on.

Default Sensors

Usually on the sensors, there is rust on the mount, which is the ground when bolting down. These need cleaned up and die-electric grease used when re-mounting. When you mount the sensor, use star washers under the sensor on the studs, then torque down.
I purchased the MidAmerica piece, plus Gordon Killebrew's plugs. All I really needed was a piece of wire, one short and one long, which I had laying in my shop.

Jay Meeks did a complete article on the codes, plus clearing the codes.
The INFL REST and the seat belt light should both come on at the same time. The passenger side sensor does not get as much water on it as the drivers side. It can rust though. There is also a connector under the carpet, passenger side, right at top lip of carpet under the dash.

The yellow cable from the RH sensor is plugged in and going to dash area. Pull this apart and spray electronic cleaner on the connections.
From the Corvette forum members helping me, I pulled the codes, did the fix and cleared the codes.

If you want the Jay Meeks article, I may be able to send it to you.
Check Corvette Fever's web site. There will be a link there for this subject. If you can't find, let me know, I will get it to you.

Boatman, I understood it as the passenger side is most prone to the sensor running into resistance since the window washer bottle is on that side and drips down onto the sensor. The driver side is below the battery box and doesn't usually get wet. Just wondering which is the case?

Default Gordon's Site

Go to:
www.gordonkillebrew.com

They are called: Fault Code Diagnostic Grounding Plugs

The plugs are a nice set up. Reason I used a piece of wire to get codes and clear codes, is that one of the forum members called me up, had me get under the dash and walked me thru using his method, which was one short piece of wire to run from I think, K to N, and a longer piece to run from one of the receptors to the seat frame, for counting off in seconds the amount of time to ground and clear the code.
I kept the Mid America piece and Gordon's plugs.

90 Vette.
It was the opposite for me, as my drivers side was rust on the mount. This Z only has 16K miles on it, garaged it's entire life. Other C4 owners told me that the drivers side gets it from car washing, and the passenger side gets it from the AC exchanger condensation dripping on that side. When I looked at the passenger side on my Z, it was like new.
Why would the washer bottle leak? I was not too enthused about taking it out, looking like I had to remove the blower motor to get to it.

Other guys I talked to wrenched it out, but took a lot of time.
Picture attached of the passenger sensor and picture of the drivers side off and re-mounted.
The yellow cable on the passenger side goes thru the firewall and to bottom of carpet inside, hooking up with looks like gold pin plug, female and male.
I did not have success clearing the code until I sprayed electronic cleaner in that connector. It is possibe the drivers side sensor was fine, and my problem was the cable and plugs only.
I think it was pulling a code 26, not sure. That is the passenger side.

Once the airbag has deployed the DERM must be replaced. I can cite you chapter and verse from the GM Service Manual if you'd like.

If you mean the sensor to be re-used. I have not heard where it could not. They only sense the shock, being forward of the bag, travels up and deploy.

I cannot comment on re-use. Should be fine.

The DERM is the control box thats mounted behind your radio. It has 2 leads comming out of it that have the yellow covering on them that pass through the firewall down by your feet and go to the frame sensors. New frame sensors are about $60 bucks from GM
