I got a Chevy Owners Appreciation Days mailer last month for a free oil change and vehicle inspection. Has anyone used this on their Vette? If so, did it cover the entire cost of the oil change, or just a partial?
I called my local Chevy dealer today for an appointment.
They wouldn't give me one because:
1. I didn't buy the car there, (I bought a new car there previously)
2. I wasn't the first owner, and
3. They would lose $40.00 on the warantee claim.
None of that was stated on the letter/coupon.
Some appreciation!! Why did they bother sending it?
I'll buy a Toyota next time.
GM is trying to show some appreciation and all the local dealer hands out is crap.

Great! Which dealer? Jack Schmitt?
I'm going to give Elco a call on Friday and see what they say.

The dealer's service should honor it. It is a sales tool to get more service business and bring buyers on to the lot. They are betting that the inspection will turn up other issues like brakes need servicing, fluid flushes, etc. Or you'll wander over to the sales lot.
You probably should keep in mind that the oil change is for standard dino oil, not Mobil 1. More than likely that oil change is retail only $19.95. So you can see it's not a big cost to them even at retail not their cost.
I'm with kwik. I have seen too many teenagers forget oil plugs or double gasket the oil filter. ( did on a 68 Barracuda when I was in high school!) owner was pizzed, I can't imagine why though! For 50 bucks it's worth my piece of mind.
I wouldn't trust any body but myself to change my oil
Even though some places charge much less for the oil and filter than what I usually end up paying for just the oil, the aggravation of a possible loose drain plug and a messy job just aren't worth it.
For just about anything short of machine shop work, I prefer to be the "go to" guy on my car. Plus, if something goes amiss I can look in the mirror and have no doubt who the a-hole is who messed it up!

this is exactly it - why read any more into it than that

UPDATE:
I got a call back. My local Chevy dealer called me and has invited me in for a free oil change for the Corvette. Ok, I'm happy now. I may buy my next car from them after all.
