I just bought a set of wheels on ebay for my '84 so I can mount a set tires on them to autox with. When I got them I saw that there are 3 left side wheels and 1 right side. Are the wheels marked left or right so they look correct on the car or is there a safety issue with using left marked wheels on the right side? I made sure to question the seller on the size of the wheels, but never thought about asking if there were 2 rights and 2 lefts.
Thanks,
Mark
Even the early 16" wheels had angled fins that drew air through the wheel to help cool the brakes.
The fins are angled so when you mount one of the wheels marked "Left" on the right side of the car, it wil look out of place with the one marked "Right".
For autocross use, you may be OK. You might want to add some brake cooling ducts to help with cooling. Mid-America has a setup that replaces the factory spoiler with one that has holes cut for cooling ducts and includes some ducting.
Can you call the seller and ask if he will take one back and swap it for a right side wheel?
Thanks for the replies! I don't think the seller has any more wheels because during the auction he added another wheel, it wound up being a 9.5" while all the rest are 8.5". So now I have 3ea 8.5" lefts, 1ea 8.5" right and 1ea 9.5" right. I guess I have a couple options. A) Use the 8.5" wheels as is, even if it doesn't look right, if it won't hurt the car. B)Find another right 8.5" wheel so it matches the others. Well I have till spring when autox starts again to decide. Thanks again for the replies!
