Default Peeling Stuff — What the....???

Hey Forum, I have a '94. What's that material that seems to peel with
age on the console? Its looks as if it's a "rubberized" coating of a black
something or another. How is this restored. ALSO, around the outside
of the removable top — black stuff peeling away from the metal trim.
RESTORING POSSIBILITIES. THANKS.

The rubberized coating (dulso) is a pita to reproduce at home. I repainted my outside trim with Krylon BBQ black and it looks great. I would consider using the same on the interior panels too. Would have to strip them well and wouldn't have that rubber feel to it though. The key to good looking results is a great prep job (sanding, cleaning, taping).

Prep is key. I used some black spray rubber coating for tool handles on my driver side door hand pull and it matches perfectly. It seems to be holding up extremely well. I bought this stuff at Lowes.

Yeah, ill 2nd that one. (not the brand of paint, i cant vouch for it) Mine being right hand drive alot of the parts are made new on my 94, and didnt have the Dulso on them, but the part around the cup holders was peeling like you say so i pulled it out and repainted the whole lot (all the originally Dulso coated parts) I used Septone plastic and vinyl paint in satin black. It doesnt look like it was ever any different from factory original.

I sanded my ash tray door all the way down. Now there are micro cracks in the finish when I paint it...they seem to be in the plastic itself. I have tried to build it up with primer but they still show through. I sand and sand but it seems to be in the mold?
