Default Quick Question

How do you guys feel about this car ? Is the Tach issues some thing to worry about u think ? There has been Questions asked and answered @ the bottom of the listing ( Mostly by me ) . I would just like your opinions if it was your 1rst Vette ( Lets say entry Vette would you get it ) . I was thinking if it goes for $6000.00 or less

Thanks in advance ,

Hmm, this is a tough one. Questions: has anyone checked out its mechanicals? How many prior owners? Where's the car "lived"--only in Mass.? Is that the original paint (seems like current owner may not know much---doesn't have any repair records)? It could be a very good car for 6K or less. Or it could turn out to be a money pit. I'm a bit leaning to the former rather than the latter, but it really does depend how much more info you've got on it. From what I can see from the pics, it doesn't look abused or left out in the cold for years and years. But that alone doesn't mean it's been well maintained, or that it won't crap out on you in a major way the instant you buy it. Pics are still dialing up so if I see anything else, I'll post.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the input . Th present owner doesn't know much . I have not had any-1 look @ it. The only thing im worried about with the " known problems " is the tach issue . The only thing I've seen here about tach issues is that there caused allot by the Tach filter .

Again thanks for the input and I would love to here from other forum members on there thoughts of this car .

That one is a crap shoot. What do you want the car for and what do you intend to do with it. As a DD with some investment and cutting a corner here and there it would make a nice ride. If you want to bring it to show quality it will soon become a money pit.

I'm not looking for a show car ( Well maybe show off a bit to the friends ) It would be more of a DD during the Summer months . I have been known to put on allot of miles for work .

The miles aren't too high. I think with some TLC it could be a nice car. Its a good year...it has the newer style interior, which doesn't look too bad considering most that old; and the ZF6 is a nice option. The car will need a new clutch around 100K, usually. Mine needed it around 96k. Other than that, shine up the paint, tint the windows, clean up the engine bay and it will be nice. If you can get it for 6...I'd say thats about right. With a little effort and those gremlins fixed it would be worth around 10.

The most important thing you can do is have it looked at by a good Corvette mechaninc, and run a carfax on it. Sometimes you find a diamond in the rough. I did. Mine has 99K on it now. I've gone through it pretty good now and it just never ends for me.

So far it got a new clutch, new shocks, new wheels, new front bumper, new floor mats, weather strip (although I already need more for the rear window), and a thourough cleaning.

Next mods/restoration parts for it are, fuel rail covers, brake calipers (maybe a C5 Z06 brake upgrade) Hotcam, exhaust, short throw shifter.

Soon you have this in your garage.

Yes and it could be an easy fix or could go deeper. There is no real way of telling w/out seeing. But power windows dead, tach, weatherstrips etc. I can already see the $$ signs rising. Someone going under "I don't know much" isn't the kind of thing I want to hear when I am looking to buy a car. Unless it's a 70 year old lady w a 10k zr-1 that she only drove to church on siunday

GM's tachs are notorious for reading higher and higher as they get old. I found a place on the internet a while ago that repairs tachs, speedos and the like, I think it was $85 for a tach. The power window going dead could run you more to fix than the tach. Weather stripping is going to be probably the most expensive repair mentioned. Upon looking at the pics, it just looks like it needs outer window sweeps (not the weather stripping)...about $100 / pr.

Default Thanks guys

Well it just ended and I wish I could say I was the proud new owner of a 90 6-speed . I bid up to 6000.00 which is what I said my line was for it . In the last 30 seconds it went up $1400.00 to 6101.00 and I was out bid . It was probably a blessing in disguise ( I'll keep on saying that to make me feel better )

I just wanted to say thanks for all of the reply's and insight ,

PatsFan
