On my way into work this morning and the "brake pressure" light suddenly faded on. I could not detect any loss in braking, but luckily it happened only about a block from my office. Any ideas why this light would come on and how much I'm looking at in potential repairs?
Sorry for the late reply, I kept getting an error saying that the forum was having problems!
Come to think of it, my brakes were squealing a little this morning. And my fluid level looked fine. I've got to take it in for routine maintenance anyway, so I'll just have my trusted car maintenance engineer check the braking system for leaks.
Won't be this weekend, they're calling for a wintery mess tonight and since my uncle sold his house, I no longer have a nice cozy garage to work in. (At least until the floor is poured into mine.) Don't worry Red, I'll make you proud!
Okay, checked the pads (actually my mechanic friend looking over my shoulder checked them) and they still have half of the material still on them, so the pads are still good. Any other ideas as to what would make this light come on? Brake fluid was a touch low BTW.

If the fluid level is not absolutely at the top it can trip the warning under accel or braking. I had my alarm come on at Mason-Dixon after a brake system flush when I didn't have enough fluid left to top it off completely. I topped it off and it's fine.
Apparently, that did not solve the problem as that *&%$#@ light came back on again! I mean, the pads are fine, the fluid level is fine! I know these cars have a lot of electrical gremlins, is there a possibility that I may be dealing with just a short? I mean, I have not noticed any changes in braking or brake pressure. I don't mean to whine about this, but I have to get this taken care of before the spring cruising season begins other wise I'll be too nervous to take this thing anywhere beyond the city limits!

Help me Obi-Wan Forum, you're my only hope!
Do the easy and cheap stuff first. I had the same problem this last week. It turned there was a little air in the lines. A simple bleed job did the trick. Give it a try.
I purchased a do-it-yourself brake fluid changer from Griots Garage and surprisingly, it worked without a hitch. Not only did it work well, but no problems were encountered during the flush and fill. The only thing I did was have a friend fill brake fluid in the reservoir as it came out through the bleeder into the unit. The last thing I'd want to do is get air in the lines. I'm guessing that this contraption would also get air out of brake lines too. The unit works with an air compressor, so if you need a brake fluid change and have a compressor, this is an inexpensive way to get it done.
Michael you might as well buy the speed bleeders that everyone talks about. The brakes should be bled every 2 yrs anyway and they make it an easy job with no contraptions except a wrench hose container and helper.I don't have a link but try a search.

That light is a warning that brake pressure is imbalance between your front and rear circuits. Check for leaks at the calipers and footwell under the m/c.
My light came on a few times, I figured the ebrake was causing it... nope.
A week later my pedal went to the floor! Was a scored m/c or bad seals so I replaced it.
Thanks for the heads up guys! I will look into the speedbleeder. Kevin, I did not notice and leaks around the calipers the first time around, but I'll check again this weekend when I try to bleed the brakes.
