I am having difficulties with my hood alignment. I believe that a previous owner or mechanic had it off at some point, probably for painting. It isn't lined up properly. The part that I can't figure out is why the hood is so close to the bumper in the centre but there is a larger gap on the outer edges?
Any ideas?
I am not sure if it is an aftermarket hood or not. I bought the car nearly 4 years ago and never realy noticed it until this summer...now it is driving me crazy!
My 87's does the same thing. Took it to a specialist herer in Tampa and he told me that they all do that to some extent. Started looking and damned if he wasn't pretty much right. He pointed out all the shims and correction points and told me how they fix it. For the time and $$ involved, unless it's major or really bothering you, I wouldn't mess with it.
He's gonna straighten mine out some when I take it in after the 1st of the year for some touches here and there
You have to pull down on the bumper. As you open the center gap the outer edges close up. It's easier to do on a lift. You actually have to bend the support a bit. I've seen it done on a chassis straightener.
Yea, thats what they were telling mne as well. It's a bit of work, but if you know what you're doing and have the tools, it's not bad, just time consuming.
I just took a drummel tool and cut the front panels where the bolt holes are.
The pieces on the left and right front where the coolent recovery can is ,on the other side where the relays and evap can is.
Those pieces are different for certian years and some don't fit verry well.
Where they connect to the body and front bumper you only need to alter a little bit.
You can also try losening the bolts on the 2 large braces at the front and bending them down in front and up at the back.
If you set the front to low the hood will catch and crack the paint.
Higher is better than lower.
You can only shim the hood easly, the front is a real pain.
The shims are realy weard looking and not that many in their, shiney tin color. You cant see those unless you remove the front bumper and impact honey comb thing.
