The rear (and front) 'vette monospring IS part of an IRS because the spring center is clamped at 2, spaced locations. It's essentially 2 cantilevered leaf springs. Nothing you can do to the L half of the spring has any effect on the R side, i.e. INDEPENDENT!
Not exactly fiberglass, it's a composite material.
The word "fiberglass" is used to describe a wide variety of materials, that are not actually fiberglass. For example, how many people have heard that Corvette's have fiberglass bodies? Well they don't - it's a material called SMC that happens to have some fiberglass fibers in it.
