Default 700r4?

I have a 87 auto. The question is should i be able to pull the the gear selector into first gear and have the transmission go into first?

i have heard that mine is working like it should, but once it goes into second pulling the gearshift into first does nothing.

is there a adjustment or another fix? transmision shifts fine, fluid gets flushed often.

thanks

I had a problem similar to what you are describing. The leather boot around the bottom of the shifter was getting in the way. Before I attempt to put my shifter in low gear, I tug and pull up on the leather behind the shifter. After that I am able to pull the lever all the way back to 1st.

Good Luck!

It is likely a linkage adjustment problem.

If you pull the shifter down into first, the transmission should shift into first.

I thought the same thing about mine. But I found out it was the shift boot getting in the way. That is a simple and easy thing to check. If that doesn't work. Then it is more then likely a linkage adjustment.
