I ordered a set of chrome tail light covers for my C4, and when I went to put them on I noticed the screws were totally different, but tried them anyways. Their twice as long as the original screw and have a flat point. Plus they require a simple phillips screwdriver which makes it easier for stealing (at least stock requires a small allen wrench).
So now I'm sitting on over $200 of metal that I can't put on my car , and when I tried to contact corvette central today I found out their on holiday until Jan. 2 which means even if the send me the right screws, I probably won't get them at my house until after I move down to Fl. And I need screws with chrome plated tops or else it will look stupid.
Any suggestions?
You might try matching the original screws at Home Depot, Lowes or True Value. Sometimes they have a whole wall of hardware (including stainless) where you might find a good substitute. Good Luck.
Same thing happened to me. I went to a nut and bolt supply house and got the proper hardware. I have no clue why they ship the wrong mounting screws. Considering what we paid we should get the right stuff.
I called Corvette Central and explained my problem. The person I was talking to didn't even know what louve covers were! So she said that someone else would call me back. Today this guy calls me and explains that they've had complaints about this, but the vendor they get the covers from says that we are wrong and they do in fact fit
So now I have to ship them back. Is Corvette Central known to be a problem like Ecklers (from what I've heard)?
I have ordered from both without a problem. The only thing I ordered from one of them was a shift boot that did not fit my 89. It turns out that the 89 is a shift boot seperate from all others.
Good luck!
I was able to settle all that without a problem. They have good customer service; just wrong screws with the louve covers. Just glad they didn't try and give me a run-around.
The screws have to be longer because the louvers add extra depth when installed -- I can't image that they actually sent you screws that were longer than the required depth which includes the louvers and the lens. I would object to screws that just had a flat or allan head - a hex head screw would have been better.

The screws they sent me are more than 2x longer than the originals. I knew they would have to be slightly bigger due to the louve covers; but not this long. I did try and install them just to make sure, and after they were in all the way (definately) the screws stuck out way past the covers and the covers would fall out (but not off)
