I'm getting my battery and alarm sitch sorted out, just not enough hours in the day.
On to my next question, the bumpers are faded, the front pretty much completely and the rear just on the top.
There is a special blend for the bumper paint, correct? Should I go to a Chevy dealer or elsewhere to buy the paint?
Planning on touching it up myself.
Thanks.
'86, Metallic gray.
Don't know about yours but I repainted my black bumbers with bumper paint I bought at an automotive paint store. I wet sanded the bumper to get the clear coat off and sprayed it. Let it sit about 20 minutes and then sprayed 3 coats of UV clearcoat I bought at the same paint store.
Go to a paint supply store. They probably supply the dealer with their stuff anyways. There are several good name products, PPG, DuPont just to name a few. Plus there are some paint shops that can take your paint code, mix the paint and put it in a spray can, pre-mixed.
I would take the car with you and see if they have something called a colorometer. This is a device that is the size of a small shoe box and is placed on your car and is pushed down like a stapler to get the exact color match properties of your paint that is good so that you can match the bumper paint and not have two or three different colors. If they have one of these in my small midwest town I have to guess they'll have it pretty much anywhere.
With Urethane paints what gets put on the body gets put onto the bumpers. Just get the proper color mixed in high end Dupont or PPG and you will be fine. It will flex, bend, and not fall off. Good luck.
