Is there something I'm missing here? Who was the genious at GM that put the Rear 02 Sensor on the Passenger Side in an impossible place on the LT4? I have the "special GM" O2 socket from Snap On, the Craftsman Universal O2 socket and I've busted 2 craftsman universal joints trying to budge the bastard with each! Tried Liquid wrench, tried heating up the exhaust, snapped one of the bolts trying to lower the exhaust--what next my acetylene torch? Man do I miss the simplicity and accessability of my 66!
They're no joke to replace, Mine was on the lift all da trying to get that one off. Forget lowereing the exhaust I did it without moving it. I think I just put a wrench on the end of the tool.
........ I have the "special GM" O2 socket from Snap On,........ !
Normal SnapOn O2 works....so should your wrench....but it ain't easy!!!!
From the 1996 GM shop manual...page 6-665...."The heated oxygen sensor may be difficult to remove when the engine temperature is below 120F. Excessive force may damage threads in exhaust pipe...."
So try it with exhaust warm using pair of gloves......The snapon socket works , but it ain't easy
When I went to change mine on my 85 under drivers side I could not budge it , I took it to my local exhaust shop, handed them the new one and told them I would pay cash for them to put it on. I waited and they did it no problem.
Unfortunately there is not enough room for a box wrench. I'm gonna buy one with a flex end and see if that will work-saw it on line not sure if it is US made though. Thanks
hello been t here done that have the scars on my arm to prove it any way i got a set of open end wrenches that fit into a ratchet thats how i got that one off but it does need to be hot it should break free easy but be very careful...good luck..o just one thing i went changing all four of mine and found out it was only a blown fuse...

Reason: spelling
I'm surprised heat didn't help - never got one off cold, but getting it nice and toasty with a quick trip around the block makes it a snap - assuming of course you can access it.
Or do what I did last week visiting my brother in FL. Find a POS 7/8 wrench in his toolbox, and grind 2/3rds of it off. Serves him right for having POS tools.

Thanks everyone for the Help! Ended up puchasing for $30 a FlexHead 22mm O2 wrench from handsontools.com that's made by H&D Tool with a lifetime warranty. Received it in one day. It took 10 minutes to remove and replace that damn sensor. Like Pop always said, "get the right tool for the right job and don't be a freakin hammer mechanic"
