Just thinking ahead. Due to the recent crash of my 88, I was wondering what everyone's opinion is on the 93 and 2003 vettes. I have to admit, those mustangs look good, but I'd like to stay loyal. The insurance company is on the bubble about totaling the 88. I didn't realize that the value on my baby was so low....
'93 and '03? Completely different cars, neither to be disliked. It could be my choice, money dependent, to try the '03. By '03, compared to your prior ride, many things had been changed and improved, even within the C5 model run. But, even after driving an '03 and owning (previously) a '93, I like the looks of the '93 better.
I have a 93 and like the interior better than newer. It also has an advantage (at least to me) because it has an ECM not PCM.It is easier to pull codes and tune with the ECM.It also is speed density meaning no MAF,one less problem but a little tricker to tune.It has all the bells and whistles that I could ever want. The Lt1 is a great engine.

Find yourself a nearby Corvette dealer and go drive a few. Then get a legal pad and list the advantages and disadvantages of each side-by-side. Pick the one that wins.
Then again, you could always use the stiffy method. Which one gives you the most wood when you look at it in your driveway?

It all depends on what you can afford... If you can afford the newer vette and its going to be a Daily Driver I would go with the more reliable one. I love the C4 i believe its the best looking vette produced and i also think the C5 is one of the ugliest vettes. But From what i hear the C5 is really reliable and i know the C4 can sometimes be a handfull... so i guess factor in maintnance and all that with you expenses and what not
Stay with a vette........Ive driven Mustangs all my life and I must admit that they are great cars with the right mods. But the best thing I ever done was buying a vette. You will regret it....
BTW, I think im the only person that thinks the new mustang looks like
As tempting as a new(er) C5 may be, I'd stick with a C4. It's not just the loyalty issue, but have you seen inside the C5? I honestly believe it looks way too plastic =\ But that's my personal opinion. At the very least, you know basically what's going wrong with C4s.. if you like to jump into surprises with a blindfold on, I'd go with the '03
VetteBoy - didn't you have the "what ifs" when you were still driving your '88? Man, I have them all the time. My '93 is everything I was looking for when I got it 3+ years ago - Comp Yellow, MN6, Sport Seats, LTPWS, FX3 - and somebody had already done a fine job replacing the Bose with a modern CD integrated radio. It has nearly every option and everything works well with about 80k miles now. And yet - I lust after a '96 specifically so I could have the LT4. I'm still really pleased with my ride, but I'd jump at the chance to give some cash and upgrade to an LT4.
If I were in your position the only question I would have is whether I could afford to step up to a skunk or just be happy with a regular 'vert. Wanna trade places? I think I'm having a bout of envy here.

Go hang out on the C5 forums for awhile, you'll find that they have their own set of issues.....
That said, never base your purchase on reliability. Base it on excitement.
thanks, I'm still hoping the 88 will come back home....The adjustor was supposed to be there yesterday, but rescheduled for monday. On a good note, my buddy at the shop said that there seems to be no structural damage on first examination. He said that the drivers door will have to be replaced. He also said the crack in the bonnet and rear deck look like relatively easy fixes. Looks like a new tire and rim for the rear. He said that on first glance, no suspension damage in that area. He promises the vette will get the thorough inspection before any decisions are made. He is enjoying busting my b@ll#, saying that he and the guys are having fun doing donuts in the lot on the flat tire. He called me yesterday and said how amazing it was to watch the sparks fly from the rim!!!! On a good news note, the trailer truck driver turned out okay and wrote the truth in his statement. He said that he had his directional on to change lanes in the stop and go traffic, and the traffic in my lane behind him had "paused" to let him enter. He said he didn't realize that the traffic in front of me had come to a stop, and thought he had a "gap" to make it, never seeing me. At least he didn't turn out to be the tool he was acting like in front of the trooper!! Anyway, I found out the car that he blasted on the highway six months ago was a modified Mazda, driven by a member of the "yo" crowd, so he can't be all bad!!!!!
