Wth all of the hoopla over all the "special" Vettes in the C4 era, Why don't we see many posts about the '86 Indy Pace Car Vettes??? It was after all the first vette vert since 1975.

Per Mike Antonick's book "Cor-vette Specs C4 1984-1996 Models" Chevrolet Press release dated 10/10/85 "From among its ten passenger car nameplates, Chevrolet has selected a bright yellow Corvette roadster--the first soft-top Corvette since 1975--to pace the Indianapolis 500=Mile race next May 25.
"Regardless of the color, every Corvette we build in 1986 will be equipped with a genuine pace car engine,.....A yellow car will pace the race. But it could just as well be a red or white or blue or any of the other Corvette colors."
"Although a Corvette convertible will pace the race, some 150 vehicles from across Chevrolet's 10-car and 11 truck lines will have official duties in connection with the 70th running of the Indianapolis 500."
These are my observations on the matter. I think most purists think of the yellow 86 vert as the real pacer but any color vert that year came with the decal kit proclaiming it as a pace car. The decals were installed at the discretion of the owner. There were 7,315 verts produced that year of which 732 were yellow.
