Thanks for all the comments!

I will stick with my initial choice, go with the C5 and mod it slowly.

congratulations on an excellent decision. you can't go wrong with the real thing. you will never regret it. diversity training in the looks dept doesn't work well with an original, american classic, imho. happy motoring

IMO that is the best choice you like the body style.

Good luck

I like the way he posted it though. You know how these threads get. Someone posts..."where can I get a C4 to C5 conversion kit?" The thread ends up being an opinion poll. At least with this threads title it can be an opinion poll. Personally, "To each his own" but I already own a C5 and just sold my C4. I wouldn't do it. I think that for the amount of work that goes into building one, you could buy a C5 for $12-15K.

There was an '87 convertable on a car lot with a c5 conversion kit. Faked me out to start with. Kind of looked like a c5, but not really. Then I saw it was listed as an '87. I wouldn't want one. c4 = cool car. c5 = cool car. c4 - c5 conversion = cobled up piece of junk. Want a c5, purchase a c5. jmo

I will step away from the crowd and say that it looks ok. But, as everyone else has put it, the cost of the kit plus painting adds up.
By the time you buy a C4 add this kit to it, you could probably buy a good used C5 which would be nicer to have than a C5 wannabe.....

If you want a C5, buy a C5. That looks like crap.

Excellent Choice!!! You will be much happier in the long run. The C5 is a kickass car! Someday I'd like to own one. For now I'll be satisfied with 2 C3's and 2 C4's, my two favorites being a 69 Couple and a 90 ZR-1 and I don't see myself letting any of them go to get a C5, but then I'd also like to pick up a C2 someday.

Personally I love Vettes of all years. Are there any other cars?
