HELLO EVERYONE.
I've searched the archives but could not find anything. My 86 dosn't seem to have an accessory position on the ignition switch,i don't have an owners manual yet and service manual is unclear.
The only way i can play radio or operate windows or fan, is with key turned to full on position, or running. Key will not turn c.c.past lock and removal position which i thought all gm cars did.
I do feel a little stop just before the on position, but nothing works.
It dosn't seem right that you need to have the key on ,or the engine running to power up accessories. It is a vats key.
Any ideas on whats wrong,or is there anything wrong?
thank you.
I don't think the windows will work in the ACC position(I never tried, so I can't be sure). On my six speed there is a button you have to press to release the key and to get it into the ACC position, I don't think the automatics have that.
Forgot to mention it is an auto.
On my 91 suburban you push the key in as far as it will go and rotate
c.c. towards you and it goes to acc.
No luck on the vette.
when I bought my 91 it would not go into acc position. I cleaned and lubricated the lock with WD40. I also used compressed air, a ton of dust came out. It has worked fine since.
THANK YOU POORBOB!!!
I did as you said and shoot a little wd40 around the cylinder, worked it back and forth, and low and behold it went to acc.
the radio and the wipers now work in this position.
The car has been in storage for 2 years and i'm finding out that things need a little help to come back on line.
Thanks again!!!

I found a spring pin had worn a groove in the cylinder, and same thing a little grease/lube and it works fine now.
