Good Morning;
I have just purchased my first Corvette. 1993 Ruby Red/Ruby interior. How difficult is it to replace the headlight dimmer switch, as that does not work witout holding for high beam?
I can look at the procedures and post them. First thing you should buy is the FSM - Factory Service Manuals. It's a two book set, cost range from 80-150. depending on where you get them. Helm is the publisher. They will pay for themselves 100 times over.
Also contact Chris May at Superior Chevy 1-800-728-8267, let him know your a member and you will get cost +15 on OEM parts pricing.

On my 87 you need to pull the steering wheel and then use a lock plate retainer tool to remove the lock plate. The switch is the white plastic assembly that you see in this pic. It is a bit difficult to do but OK if you take your time. It is a must to have the manual, especially with an airbag car.
It mounts to the steering column and ignition switch. It is actuated by a rod that runs up the column to the lever. As you may guess, you have to drop the column, tape the rod to the column to prevent it from falling out, practice your four letter words, reach down the top of the column with a 5/16" socket and remove the 2 screws holding the switch in place. Now get ready to use those four letter words...you have to put the new switch in place and get the upper screw started (its the easy one), start swearing as you try to get the bottom screw back in the tiny little hole while keeping the switch on the screw too. Once you have that done. Adjust the switch (I just tighten the top one as I get the switch in the right place). Once it is adjusted, tighten both screws.
You may want to just try adjusting yours to see if you can get it working...if not, replacement time.
Thanks Morley, i got the swearing part down pat. I will try to adjust first, as it does work if you hold the lever back, just does not click in. Thanks
I need help The actuator came out when I was trying to adjust the dimmer switch. I did not realize the dimmer is on the colum not behind the plastic compartment gehind the turn signal switch. How does the actuator go back on. and where do you find the lock plate retainer tool. I do not see where the actuator connects to on the turn signal lever nor how it connects to the dimmer rod. This is complicated from a 1-10 I say 11 HELPPPPPPPPP
