I'm in the process of replacing the weatherstrips on the A and B pillars for the top. The manual says to put soap on them . Has anyone done this? If so, does the glue stick after the soap dries out?
Using soap might sound strange, but here's my experience: we campaigned for a few years in NASCAR. To apply all those decals, we used a spray bottle of warm lightly soapy water under the decals. This was to facilitate the correct alignment of the decals, sponsor logos, numbers, etc. Once they were straight, we used a simple squeege to get the water out. Once dry, the decals did not come off at speed (150+ for our class).
After having the roof side strips for over a month I pulled them out to put the glue in because the wind was driving me crazy at high speed. I didn't do the soap but used a lot of armorall then I got some GM black adhesive. Installed them with the two screws drove around and could still hear wind noise coming from right behind my head in the upper left corner.
I took the two screws back out and pulled down the weatherstrip just a little in the upper right corner (if your outside the car) and that cut the wind noise 75%. Turn the radio on and you really can't hear it.
I need the A and B pillars but their so expensive.
