Default sunvisor removal

need help,
I want to realign the roof bolts, i need to remove the plastic liner , and the only thing stopping me is the sunvisors, my question is this, after i remove the nut and spring that tensions the sunvisor, what else is required to actualy remove the visor? do i just force it out or is thee something else holding it in place?
i did a search and looked in faq's but to no avail. the car is an 89 coupe

i know on mine i din't have to have the sunvisors off to realign the bolts. All the adjustments are made on the top. however all you need to do is take the nut and spring off and then the visors will come out.

on mine, the two front bolts that you tighten when refitting the top, go into the nuts which are held in place by two adjustable plates on the top itself, but to realign them you have to have the top on the car, and when the top is on the car these two plates are not acessible because of a the headliner trim, and b because there are two plastic covers between the top and the body.

Did the same thing on my '95. No problems - just labor-intensive. Here's what is involved:

Step 1: Get ready.

Step 2: remove top and loosen two hold-down plates on each side front; set top aside;

Step 3: remove plastic around windshield; remove rear view mirror;

Step 4: sunvisors are held in place with locking acorn nuts - remove; S/V spring is held in place with spring steel star nut - gently pry it off using circular motions (needle-nosed pliers work best);

Step 5: reinstall top and tighten the four Torx bolts that hold it to the car - no gorilla needed here, but a bit of Loctite might help;

Step 6: you can see the hold-down plate bolts (two each side) thru the four holes in the windshield frame (good thinking GM); tighten hold-down plates on each side no gorilla needed here either, but a bit of Loctite might help;

Step 6: remove top and re-install other stuff. Rear view mirror was a PIA to get back - especially with the wires for the lights.

Step 7: I use a bit of bees wax on mating surfaces to help stop those annoying squeeks . . .

Step 8: Ride and enjoy.

Hope this helps. Gary
