Sunday we actually went for a drive instead of me working on the Corvette. I'm all done for now,so my wife suggested we go to San Francisco (about 50 miles). Since this was only the second time we've gone for a long drive I was a little nervous, but the car worked beautifully. The weather was sunny, no wind, and about 65 degrees instead of the constant rain and cloudiness we've had for months.
We started out with the targa on, but when we got to the city, all the sports cars were topless, so I stopped and removed it. Can't let those AC Cobras and Ferraris have all the fun. We went through Golden Gate Park, and over the Golden Gate Bridge to Sauselito for lunch at a nice restaurant with a view of the city. People were out walking and biking in tank tops. SF is fogged in and cold in the summer, but can be glorious in the winter if it is not raining. Gots lots of looks and thumbs up, the Corvette is sparkling clean with its new chrome Y2Ks. All my hard work was rewarded with a great day.
Stories like these make me feel...... not quite ill or depressed, just Jealous. I dream about getting the vette and the bike out.
Enjoy the weather while you can, I'll be waiting for another 3 months.
We got off at the first exit and drove down by the terminals to Pier 39, across the Marina district, through Golden Gate Park and back across the Golden Gate Bridge to San Rafael, over the other bridge to Richmond, and back to Oakley. The Corvette is great in the city with the top off, you can see and hear everything so much better, just watch out for the giant potholes in the road. I wanted to go down Lombard (The crookedest street in the world) but forgot how to get there. I know lots of people who are afraid to drive in San Francisco, it is a bit intimidating, getting lost, lanes dissappear without warning, very steep up and down hills, cars dart out from everywhere, almost all one way streets, Cable Car tracks, huge hinged busses, crazy taxi drivers, the Corvette handles them all. And sometimes you need lots of power to get over a few lanes before the next corner, no problem. Great fun. Sorry about you guys in snow country, not trying to make you feel bad.
That was a great write up.I sold my Vette but remember having days like that when I would take the car out,top off and just drive.
Theres nothing like it in a Vette.
Btw,Ed,I once thought you were a troll lurking on the forums just trying to stir controversy up and I see that youre not.I want to publicly apologize to you and sorry for anything I said that was uncalled for.You are the real thing and I thought I was poking fun with another troll. Its happened in the past and didnt connect you to that.Just trying to make amends for any wrongsaying or doing.
