center console fix?

center console fix?
anybody know a way to beef up the center console so it doesn't break?
i need something to stop a new one from fracturing when my dogs and girlfriend work their way into the back.
i've thought of putting sheet metal or plywood on it. also, is there a way to rehab my broken piece so i don't have to pay $120, or is there a way to turn a tape on cheap piece into a functioning console.

sorry, i meant to say the dog's girlfriend. mine's too big to even fit in the car.
