I'm working on installing a high flow edelbrock manifold and runners. I need to port the openings on the plenum. I know some of you have opened up the plenum openings to the runners. Curious what tools you used. I find grinding bits load up quickly and my dremel even with carbide bits are slow going. Any other ideas?
For aluminum you want a coarse cut oval bit like the two pictured together above. Use a lubricant as you go like WD40 to keep the bit from clogging. The problem with a long shank bit like the one on top is they often run out and vibrate especially with a cheap die grinder with bad bearings and a poorly designed collett. It will however, be necessary to use a long shank bit for intake manifold porting. If you are serious about doing a good job check out ther Dotco air grinders.
Got her done! Local NAPA store had what I needed for the die grinder. The trick was using WD40 every few minutes...took about 2 hrs..everything goes back together tomorrow. Took a couple days off finish this whike the wife is away....
