I recently had to reformat my computer and saved all firefox prefs to an external hd... I however unfortunately lost all my good corvette links. Anyhow there was someone on the forum who was asking what paint they used under the hood. I know it was a GM product but does anyone have a link to the website where I can go to purchase the paint? Thanks.
I posted a similar thread and someone suggested useing "KRYLON" semi-gloss found at most hardware stores. They said it was almost a perfect match. GM sells the paint for it too, but it is $$$$$, with the corvette tax and all. I vote for the Krylon and will be using it when I detail the car in the spring. Let me know what you come up with too.

I believe I saw they were posting the GM paint for like 20-40 dollars for either a quart or gallon. I cannot remember though.
Yeah, like I said, big bucks. You won't need all that paint. I'm opting for two cans of krylon and give it several coats including wheel well touchup. I have the underhood insulator blanket as well so I won't need that much. 2x$4.00 is a lot better that $40.
i used Krylon semi flat black and it looks awesome....i lightly sanded the under hood with 600 grit and cleaned it first. i also strongly suggest covering every inch of your car that you don't want to get "over spray" on. And home depot, etc sells a little trigger device that makes it much easier to shoot...it clips over the top of the spray nozzle...works great..

Great idea on the trigger!! Do you think the semi-flat is closer than the semi gloss?
semi-flat/semi-gloss......i couldn't find any semi gloss is my area for some reason....semi flat looked close enough....i think that a flat plaint would lay nicer that a glossy paint anyway...especially trying to do such a large area and get it with no streaks or highs and lows...i did the wheels wells too after some grey primer....again...it looks awesome...
and the trigger is a MUST, the fingers were almost unbendable after only 1 wheel well...with a trigger, you can go all day...the hood alone took 6 cans for good coverage...and for like $3, its worth it.
Semi-flat it is then. I am a super nut when it come to the "little" things like the wheel wells. I usually spray tire wet on them when i finish cleaning all of them. It really sets the wheels off with a nice black backdrop. Nothing can compare to a detailed shiny Vette either cruising by or just sitting looking good. The trigger is now on my list of things to get for my detail box as well as the spray paint, {or as my wife calls them, Irish fountain pens}.
Think I'll start a thread later for ideas on detailing. Spring is not that far off.
The best way to mask a car is to use cheap plastic painters tarps. Sometimes you can get them for $1.00 each. As was said above, cover every inch of the car. Paint can and will find anything not covered. Spending 5 or 6 dollars on tarps can save you hours of removing oversray!
"Eastwood dot com" sells alot of restoration paints, I don't know about corvettes but they do cary an underhood black.
www.mamotorworks.com sells underhood paint accepted by GM. Just alot less expensive. Why pay more when you can get the same stuff for cheaper. Use the extra $$ to make your already nice car better
