AM/FM cassette replacement
There is an audio section here on the forum. Post your question over there. You'll get a lot more response in that section.
The Bose speakers only work with Bose stereos since they are amplified at each speaker. In order to use an aftermarket unit, you have to replace all the speakers as well. There are several plug-in units that work with the Bose speakers sold through Eckler's, Corvette Central and Mid-America. Some Forum members expressed some dissatisfaction with these units. I replaced my unit with a GM refurbished factory GM Bose AM/FM CD that was an option in the '89 Caprice Classic. Simple plug in and perfect fit. I paid $475 for the unit at my local Chevy dealer. Little expensive but it worked for me. Hope this helps. You will get alot of additional advice in the audio section.
You will need to build your own custom brackets to keep the stereo mounted in the middle of the dash aswell you'll need to custom cut a cover for the Vette's larger DIN. As for the speaker wiring, I picked up a convertor from Walmart (~$20 USD) that coverts the speaker voltage from my head unit to BOSE setup.
It runs great with my DVD player and Playstation but I haven't cranked the stereo past half volume for fear of blowing the bose speakers.
I'll try to post pics later on today.
P.S. Don't ask how I can get a DVD player and Playstation and CD-changer into my ragtop. I can tell you it all has to come out when I go shopping.
