I was cleaning my 85 the other day and when I got to the Stainless Exhaust the entire inside of the tips was coated with black carbon residue. I also noticed that the wall in my garage has some nice black splatter on it from when I start it up. Any great ideas on why my car is putting out so much black crap?

Just a guess here, but how often do drive your car? Do you have alot of moisture there? Sounds like alot of condensation buildup until the engine warms up. I get a little bit too when my car sits for a while and its damp outside. Like I said, just a guess.

It's normal.
Cold starts are rich starts, it's the nature of internal combustion engines.
The black spatters occure when water vapors from combustion mix with the black carbon from the cold starts and make a nice black 'paint'.
There's not much you can do to minimize the problem.
I had that problem when I first started working on my Triumph. It ran really rich, until I mastered the manual choke.
The way I found that won't fix the problem, but will keep your wall nice. Go to Fedex, steal some boxes, don't fold em, and put them up so that they gets carboned and not your wall(your wife/gf/mom will get pissed if the wall looks bad).
