i believe that chevy had promotional only goodyear gsc with raised white letters on some of the convertable 96 pace cars.
if you really want raised white letters on your vette there's a white vinyl paint pen that you can buy from j c whitney.
did you ever see the episode of biker build-off where exilce motorcycles went up against the detroit brothers. remember the big wheels on the
Exile cycles trike? the letter on the side of those tires was done with the j c whitney white paint pen. I believe it costs 5 bucks.
Actually I was thinking of RWL on my Black 95 with black ZR-1 wheel but I could not find any in 315's so I scrapped the idea and just kept the chromes on there.
You will be hard pressed to find RWL's on speed rated tires (V and above) because it requires that white (in some cases yellow?) rubber be vulcanized into the sidewall. The outer (black) layer is shaved exposing the RWL's. I remember reading about this when the C4 first came out with the V rated tires and Goodyear gave this as the reason.
I don't think a manufacturer has ever made 16" or 17" performance tires with RWL.
You are correct; RWL is a C3-era thing.

yeah, Ive just purchased some new rims for my c3 - 17" front and 18" rears, and have been looking now at what tyres Im going to purchase, noone makes white lettered tyres for these size rims......I think 15" and 16" is as big as they go. I think white lettered tyres look good on c3's.
I have RWL tires on my 71 Mustang Mach One, look great on that car as it was designed for them from the factory..they are period correct and make the total package work on that car. As for putting them on my Vette?..not a chance
i considerd this for my 85, i think they are kinda muscle-cary looking, and i like that. But i dont know with all that chrome. I'd like to see what it looked like.
