Default Breathless Fixed Headlights

I have seen some threads on the breathless fixed C4 headlights and I am wondering if those of you who have made the upgrade are satisfied with them. Would you do it over again and did you do it for added lighting or to take off nose weight? Is it save to say that you lost 25 lbs with the conversion? The reason I am asking is because I have seen claims of weight reduction of 40 lbs and I am trying to find out if this is real or if that number is over inflated.

Thanks for your home...and any photos would be greatly appreciated.

Happy Hot Rodding!

Might be an overinflated weight loss but I love them except dirt gets into the covers from underneath.

If you're referring (at least in part) to the post I made earlier this past week here... http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...97&forum_id=34

...then I should make it clear that I've only scale-confirmed the first section of mods listed.

The second section contains weight loss claims pulled from various weight reduction discussions here and elsewhere.

I'm interested to know if that 40 lbs is real, too....there were claims here of 38 lbs. weight loss for deleting the A/C on an LT1...but I only saw 25lbs net reduction. Kinda ticked me off at the time.

Hopefully somebody who actually weighed-up the parts will check in...

Actually I hadn't seen the thread you mentioned but I have my C4 apart and am putting on a lighter weight cowl hood and will have to swap the headlights from the old hood to the new hood and thought while it is apart I might as well make the switch to the fixed lights and save another 40 lbs if that number is real. I am always interested in ways to reduce the weight of my 84 and as tims passes I am getting closer to 2800 lbs. Two areas beyond the norm where you can save serious weight is installing a lexan rear window and the aerospace components front brakes.

Those look great. Did you use window tint on those covers? Did that significantly reduce the light output at night?

How about the weight savings? The car looks rockin with the headlights. Did you tint them or were they smoked lights?

Looks great.
Where did you get the conversion lights kits??
I've checked a couple sites and can't seem to find them.
Thanks in advance.

I think those look pretty cool. And in a car where you don't care about the resale value (of a stock type car), I say go for it.

If the weight savings isn't even 40 pounds, it would be tough putting 20+ year old headlight motors/gears in what is going to be all new stuff. Save some weight and some aggrevation and go with the fixed lights.

What hood did you get and how much weight did it save?
I have removed my stock headlight units to replace bushings and they aren't all that heavy, in fact I really doubt the pair even weighs 40lbs. You'll probably get some weight savings with the fixed units but it won't be no 40lbs, probably more like 10lbs. Have you tried emailing breathless for a weight?

I saw some fixed headlights on a early c4 w/ a greenwood kit (sans wing). I like the stock lights because the paint isn't broken up for the lights when they're down, but that car looked

I have the Toledo pro super high rise 4 inch cowl and I ordered it extra light from Linda. It is about 32 lbs lighter than my 1984 hood but it doesn't have paint on it yet so that will add a little bit back to it. I did e-mail breathless and didn't hear back from them which is why I posted the thread thinking someone on here would know. I would not be willing to switch to the Breathless for only a 10 lbs savings but if it were to 30 to 40 I would be all over it for sure especially with their 10% discount for forum members.

That's a ton of money for 10lbs.

That is exactly my point...I am all about weight reduction in my cars but there is a point where the reduction is greater from my wallet than the weight of my C4 hot rod and when that is the case I am looking at other ways to spend $900 to $1000.

Does extra light mean it's just a skin or does it have all the factory inner hood stuff? Fiber glass or carbon fiber?

Dont quote me on the 10lbs, that was just a guess. We need to con vinnie into unbolting one of his headlights and putting it on the scale. If he'll weigh one of his lights I'll volunteer to unbolt a stocker and weigh it.

It is not a skin and all factory stuff will bolt right on and it is factory appearing in all areas top and bottom except the cowl area. They just made it thinner in non critical areas to save weight for me and they are willing to do this for anyone if you request it. It is not a carbon fiber hood.
