I like to use 3rd-OD at speeds between 35 and 50. 3rd-OD provides a slightly lower RPM than 4th direct. Great for long arterials.
With the 87 models, it is possible to have the tranny go into 1st-over depending on RPM. If you are in really slow city traffic and you have stopped and shifted into 1st, once you start moving at slow speeds with no real acceleration, the tranny will go into OD in 1st. With part throttle at that point, the OD will shift out and will remain out until 4th gear.
