Just curious. There have been a few threads about our Vettes being rear ended lately. Has anybody installed a flasher for their third (center) brake light? I installed a Signal Dynamics flasher unit on my Goldwing to flash and cycle the trunk brake lights. They make a single light and higher amperage double light model. It's not a guarantee that some bonehead woun't hit me but it does put on a pretty good light show when I hit the brakes. I may get one for my '94 if it's not too hard to install.
Ok, does anybody think it's not a good idea to add a flasher and why? Is it illegal in some states? There have been some threads about adding day time running lights to a C4 which I suppose are to make the car more visiable. That's something I have never been fond of, especially when federally mandated like on my bike. It does help make me seen by on-coming traffic but a Vette is considerably larger. I guess in the end it always boils down to how attentive the other driver is and how defensively I am driving. Happy Presidents day to ya out there in forum land!

If you're worried about being rear ended, then by all means, go for it. I don't know if you can do it or anything, but I wish you luck. Report back with your results!

I'm sure you can adapt a GW flasher to the C4. You just splice it in the third light's wires, according to the SD website.
I also think it would certainly not be a bad idea.

In the spring I'm going to install a 3rd. brake light I got from "artvette" with a flasher I'll buy from http://www.webelectricproducts.com/products.htm
Having this done to the vette gets expensive--
PS -- thats not me in the shower curtin underware.

Have you checked to see if that flasher is plug and play compatible with a C4? I like the idea of plug and play and would be interested. The Signal Dynamics has to be soldered or crimped in but costs about $20 less.

I belive it's crimp ( you solder/crimp) and/or get the correct plug at "PEP" boys ( insert your parts place here______________.) Maby I'll do a wright up ( my first)

I followed a C5 with the 3rd light flasher and found it more of a distraction than helpful. This was during the daylight hours and maybe in traffic it will be more helpful.
My C4 has the daytime running lights kit from these guys and its a crimp kit. The instructions included a short primer on crimping and other handy tips to assist with installing the kit.
You might want to check the law first to see if it is legal. From the way I read the Federal law it is illegal
S5.5.10 The wiring requirements for lighting equipment in use are:
(a) Turn signal lamps, hazard warning signal lamps, and school bus
warning lamps shall be wired to flash;
(b) Headlamps and side marker lamps may be wired to flash for
signaling purposes;
(c) A motorcycle headlamp may be wired to allow either its upper
beam or its lower beam, but not both, to modulate from a higher
intensity to a lower intensity in accordance with section S5.6;
(d) All other lamps shall be wired to be steady-burning.
I have heard of some people getting a tickets with flashing brake lights.

Very good point. Since they sell the motorcycle brake light flasher/pulsers in motorcycle shops in Maryland I figured they were legal. I know the headlamp flashers are not legal. I better check on the brake lights though because I'm sure it's my responsibility.

I've seen quite a few new cars and big rigs with flashing brake lights up here. If it's legal in the state, are there any federal highway cops that are going to ticket you? My guess would be that the federal law is to keep people from imitating cop cars.
