My LTPWS light comes on at start up and stays on until I drive about 1/4 mile.....then shuts off. Any ideas what could be causing this?
Some of you might remember that a couple weeks ago I had new rims/tires put on and the shop broke one of my sensor bands. However, since then I bought a LTPWS band from longhorn and the shop used it to put the sensor back on the rim. During the time between breaking the band and having it fixed I drove the vette around and the light would come on after driving for about 5 minutes.
I wonder if there is a code stored in the computer from when I was driving around without the sensor on one rim....which is causing this issue....or is it something else? Really weird that it would come on at start up and then go off.
I'm assuming 96 is the same as 95 when it relates to the LTPWS.
After you replace a sensor you have to clear the code. That is done by grounding pins #6 to #5 three times, at the DLC, within 10 secs with the ignition "on"..donot start the engine.
The receiver/control module will confirm that it's memory has been cleared by lighting both Low/flatTire & service LTPWS at the same time.
Lamps will remain until the ignition is turned to the "off" position & then "on".
I just replaced my wheels with the A-molds but without the sensors. The light didn't come on for about 3 days. Then I hit a pothole and suddenly the light came on.
I'm taking it in to get some service done today so I hope its possible to disable that damn light.
Cannot "program" LTPWS light off - but removing the bulb has the same effect.
I had a broken (or loose) band in one wheel and it started coming on at really low (traffic creep) speeds. The sensor was heavy enough to stay on the bottom until speed and centrifical force got it spinning again. It was hard on the sensor, though, and broke it in short order. That's how I discovered the broken band. Good luck,
Rick96 - rethinking this thing, it MUST be the remining code. The LTPWS light does not normally come on at start up. It comes on about five minutes AFTER start up if it does not receive a signal from any of the four sensors. On at initial start may be the remaining code issue. Good luck,

I tried to have the Chevy dealer disable mine after switching to ZO6 rims...said it can't be done...safety issue...like trying to disable air bag deployment...
Bought my 96 new and the LTPS light has always come on at start up and taken about a 1/4 mile to turn off. I considered it normal. The only time it didn't turn off I had 22psi in the left front tire.
