Default Hood Release

I was wondering if anyone else had this problem. First of all, I apologize if this thread should in Tech/Perf instead of here. Here's my problem. I went for a nice ride yesterday and when I came home I went to release the hood and it wouldn't release. I removed the 3 screws holding the plastic cover for the release and unknowingly broke 2 of the 3 areas where the screws fasten because they are plastic. I fixed my release problem, but as you can see by my pic, I can only put in 1 of the 3 screws for the cover. Any creative ideas on how I can properly and securely fasten the cover back into place?

What about a speed nut behind the panel? These are the same nuts that slide over plastic edges of many underhood and interior plastic pieces. It doesn't have to slide onto anything, you can just use it as a nut. If the areas is broken away you might want to drill new holes in the handle and rear carpeted panel then use the speed nut whether you can slide it onto the plastic or just use it as a nut. I've used this method many times for similar repairs. It may be a little unsightly but this area is hidden from view.

Also, if you're going to drill new holes don't use the old style phillips head screws or try to countersink the plastic with a drill Use the 7mm hex head type screws that have a small washer attached under the head. Using the old screws might crack the plastic since they're tapered under the heads. The old ones will work if that's all you have, the other ones let you snug 'em up good while spreading the pressure evenly under the washer.

Since you can't really see it I would try using rubber faucet washers on the screws.I have done this with a couple on the rear hatch trim with good sucess.

I've found several interior screws that "someone" put back in covered in what looked like either plumbers tape or caulk or something, so that the screw has more grip with I guess. It could just be hold the screw in place for looks.
