Is there a way to clean the VIN tag that is in that little window under the windshield? Mine must have moisture in it somehow as it is rusted to heck, and I want to clean or replace it or whatnot..
Replacing it will not be an option as replacements are not (legally)made. Removal of the windshield is one way but removing the rust may simply cause the tab to either break or look as though it was changed in some way.
If there is rust there, the chances are there is a lot of rust under the dash. I always thought those tags were either aluminum or stainless steel. Did the car ever have major windshield leaks? Flood damage??
No windshield leak or water damage ever, never been replaced either.
So the only way to get to it is to remove the windshield? Daym..
I'm just worried the next time someone looks at the vin number there they won't be able to tell if it's the actual car or whatnot..
The VIN is stamped on the frame in other places so if there was ever an issue with identifying the car, the stampings can be used to get the VIN. It also appears on the RPO sticker and on one of the driver's dor tags.
