Default HVAC Problem, Need Advice

Situation is as follows: The digital readout of my 1996 vert Control Head does not display a full number in the LCD display. It also does not show the picture of the fan or display the word out side. The read out will show 90 degrees which I know is not the outside temp, but than it will display the correct outside temp and after a while go back to 90 degrees. Using the 1996 corvette service manual I did a resistance check of the outside air temp sensor and it was fine. I did a check of the wire harness terminal D16 and C16, everything checked OK. At this point all I can think of is that the Control head is bad. I was told this is a solid state unit and it the LCD display goes wacky to replace the control head. Let me add that no matter what the readout shows on the LCD display the proper heat/air comes out from whatever function I select. Based on everything I have done I do not believe that the HVAC Programmer is bad, I believe the control head is bad. Any help or advice befor I go out and buy a new control head?

Thanks

If you aren't knowledgeable about working on printed circuit boards, then find someone who is and YOU don't touch it. The control head needs to be looked at under low power magnification for poor solder joints and those joints reflowed (resoldered). Most problems with the control head can be corrected by this procedure, but not all. Dealers were never expected to service the control heads or any other electronic devices down to the component level and parts and information from GM is not available.
