for some reason when i bought my 94 the console plastics(the section with the gear shift and cup holders, and the radio and vent housing) they were pealing and had some paint substance missing, and the reaveled is fading a little to a blueish color. anyway, i am looking to repaint the plastic pieces, what would be a good paint to use? i need something good for plastics, something that won't scratch easy, and something for heat. i want to paint it a dull black color. any suggestions?
Mine was like that they all do have dulso peeling after time.I bought a brushed aluminum kit to cover it(look at my pics) and it looks great.I got mine from eBay for ~$100.

I was just gonna mention the Krylon Fusion in Black of course. I have some, but never used it on interior(I was thinking about using it for rear Tail Louvers cuz it binds so well supposedly to plastics). I Also have the same interior problem on my '90. Not too noticeably bad, but some areas I definitely wanted to paint black around the console. Even maybe some or mostly all the grays. You can be my guinea pig. LOL j/k. Seriously though lemme know how it turns out if you do go that route w/pics if possible. I'm considering the same, but wanna see it first.
deal, tomorrow i'll find some krylon fusion and be the guinea pig! i might as well try it, i have been reading about it for the last two hours. sounds like the paint to use. i'll keep you updated.
NAPA carries the rubber spray coating that goes on the plastic pieces.
I forget the name of it but if you pm me, I can look at the can tomorrow.
The rubber coating is made by NAPA Plasti it's s spray on rubber, comes in different colors.

Remember to do a fine sand between coats. That way the stuff that would peal comes off and you can see your problem areas before you put it back together.
2000 should be for your final sand before clear coat, and after clear.
For your inital sand and in between coats use some thing like 500 or 1000.
Just put a another 4 coats on tonight after a good sanding. WOW it is really starting to look good. I think one more coat and a color sand, and we are on to clear.
I just did mine this week, I used a SEM product code ? I'll post the number tomorrow. But I purchased some replacement parts and they match the parts I panted perfectly.
i am in the middle of sanding everything down, i wish there were more hours in the day. as far as the paint that is on it goes, could i use a weak paint thinner to get some of this paint off? sanding it seems to be the wrong approach, although i know that thinner and plastic DON'T mix well, if i rub the paint off and then wash the thinner off directly after would the plastic stay strong?
zix, what type of paint did you use on that interior, it looks great!! i think i have commented on it before!!
That is actually House of Color paint...it's the same silver I had sprayed on the outside of the car. I stripped off the rubber coating using fine grit sand paper and and some pretty weak paint thinner...the painter then sprayed them. They came out pretty good and they've held up very well so far!
A little, but not much at all really, and certainly nothing that couldn't be easily touched up. The only ones I have are on the console right above the cup holders from when I used to prop my scanner up there to watch it as I drove the car to check out my fuel trims and timing
