Default DIY Fixes for the C4?

I did a search and did not find much, so please do not hang my by my feet..

What are some relatively inexpensive DIY upgrades, fixes, mods, etc. that one can do with the C4?

Thanks!

Start with a good exhaust system, not quite inexpensive but a lot of bang for the buck. And pay a good muffler shop to install it.

I would go with only stainless, should last the life of the car.

I am mainly looking for DYI (Do It Yourself) kinda projects...Such as porting your throttle body with a dremel and so on.

Thanks though.

Hi Adam, If you are talking about c4 with LT1 there really isn't any cheap DYI performance upgrade that is worth the money. In your climate I would not do the throttle body by-pass, which is a $0 upgraded. Exhaust upgrade will be for better sound, but won't do much for extra power. Otherwise you are looking at engine surgery for cams, rollers, etc. Good news is GM really got it together when they designed the LT1. I have the 101 projects book, but don't think it was worth the money. If you want the book I will send it to you for cost of the postage (I think I still have your address from when I sent you the decals). Just send it back when you have finished reading it. Let me know.

Well I'm glad it stayed in the "family" so to speak. There's a certain Pearl Mist Yellow one that if it ever goes back up for sale, I'm going to take a shot at. I wish I had got it the first time around but it's in good hands now. So is Deb's car. Since you picked the same year as mine, I can probably tell you everything you'll have to deal with and approximately when since I'm up to about 166k miles right now.

I could think of a few things. You can cut out the air filter lid to expose more air flow. A good tune up won't hurt either. The exhaust upgrade is probably the best HP upgrade on a stock car. I have read of alot of useless upgrades out there that won't really show much improvement (air foil, throttle body bypass, K&N filter just to name a few).

TB bypass and cut lid are the easiest, but may be of little interest in getting better performance (tb bypass may not be wise as said above).
If you have more time than $, go to sears and buy a $25 polishing kit and pull off the tb and maf housings and shine them up and then polish up the control arms, a/c lines etc. You could also paint/sand smooth your fuel rail covers on the cheap. Krylon BBQ black spray paint does wonders on the black trim, wiper arms, door handles and other matte black areas that have faded (proper prep is key). Iv'e done all the above and it looks nice to me. I also made some diy front brake cooling ducts from Home Depot (let me know if you want to know more about these). And best of all, you get "bonding time" with your vette and you know you did it yourself.

Good advice! I am interested in the brake cooling ducts...If you want to email you can do so at adam@corvettemuseum.com

Thanks!
