Default would you do it

I have a 86 vette, a friend of mine did some work on it, new valve seals, weatherstripping etc. I will be going to Aruba for 2 weeks on a business trip and I was thinking about leaving him my car so he can do
more work on it. He is going to fix my air conditioning, fix my parking brake and fix other things on my car. He is a good friend but what if someone hits him or he gets into a accident with it. Not sure if my insurance company will pay for the car even though I have full coverage. The car is my dd so would you guys trust a friend with your corvette. ?

If it's your daily driver, that means you probably don't have collectors car insurance, which means that he is covered to drive your car, unless for some odd reason he personally is listed as excluded on your policy.

Have fun on your trip,
GT6

PS - The only people I let drive my cars are my mom and dad.

He should have his own insurance.I lent my car out one time(not my Vette a 76 Camaro) it ended up smashed into a wall and the"friend" disappeared and did not even let me know what happened to my car when I came home to an empty garage. He is still alive (luckey for him) so guess what my suggestion is?

In KY the law is the insurance goes with the car. So if he has your permission to drive the car he is covered on it. Even if I had permission to drive it any damages it incurs while I am driving it would be covered under your insurance and not mine.

Just in KY the laws could be different where you are.

Call your insurance agent and ask him. Then other question is only how much do you trust your friend. If he is a friend and doing all this work for you why not let him use it. Other option is simpler---send me tickets and I will go to Aruba for you. While I am gone you could both work on my vette

Nope! Years ago, I had a brand new pick up with 700 miles, lent it to a good friend while I was away on a long weekend, came home to find an empty spot in the driveway and a note on the door telling me my truck was at a local body shop. The truck was never the same after the accident.

Your first sentence says friend of yours, trust him. check with your insurance usally the insurance is on the car not the driver.

Something like this happened to me. My insurance said hey, the other person has their own insurance why doesn't their insurance pay. And the other insurance said, hey you insured the car with your insurance, not us, why don't they pay. I ended up just paying the 2k to fix it out of pocket 4 months later. Any day now I might get some money from someone…. Any day…

And I'm in IL. If the other guy had no insurance at all it would have been better. This way it's in limbo.

How to turn a friend into an ex-friend, lend him your car. I don't borrow, lend, buy or sell to friends or relatives either. I tell them I value their friendship too much to risk it over material objects. I have given money and cars to people and fixed their stuff, but wanted nothing in return, told them to pass it along. That said, if he is fixing my car for free, then I would let him have it while I was gone, but tell him in advance what my insurance/deductable is and agree on what will happen if there is an accident. If he has money to cover any problem that is. If he cannot reasonably pay for any problems, then why put him at risk. If he is a good friend you can talk about it. Or just take a chanch, it's your car. Well that about covers every position on the subject.

Can't he just do the work that needs to be done an not drive it?
If he needs to drive, have him wait untilyou get back and you reward him by letting him drive (with you in the car) around a little.

First, make sure your insurance or his insurance covers him if he is driving. Second, think about this. If he is reliable enough to do the kind of work he has done and plans on doing to your corvette, then why isn't he reliable enough to drive it? If you decide he isn't reliable enough to drive it, have the respect for his friendship and refuse any offer to repair your car unless you pay him the going rate a mechinc would receive for that work. Pretty one sided friendship if you receive the benefit of his work but you don't trust him to drive your car.

Well, whats in it for you? Free repairs?
Whats in it for him?

You're taking a chance. If you take a chance theres a chance that you'll lose or win. Way both sides and then decide.

redwing is right. if you're getting free, or ultra-cheap repairs -- and he's getting the satisfaction of helping out his good friend -- then this is really good stuff. if he's a responsible person, i see no reason not to trust him. would i trust someone like that with my corvette? the answer is yes.

you're going to aruba for a 2 week business trip, and you've got a good friend to help out like that? i'd say life is very good for you indeed! i would love to be in your shoes

This has happened to me, let a friend of my better half borrow my Bronco and a tree fell on it.
His home owners would not pay for it, he went out and bought a Bronco same year model same motor, but he had not put the 3500 in parts that i had put into mine.

I wanted less for mine than he paid for his, just the parts that i had put into it and was willing to fix his with all of the new parts from mine.

He said he did not think he should have to pay for it, now if this was a guy making 30,000 a year i might have felt differently, but he makes over 500,000 a year and thinks he and his wife will top the one million mark this year.

Every time i let some one drive one of my cars they come back broke, i kept a ugly *** volvo wagon just for that purpose for years, i had to pick it up out of gas 3 times with a wrecker, because they told me it just stopped running. i no longer do this.

I would not do this.
