But I don't.
I know nothing about the Vette in the garage(hardly nothing).
Now the girls want a 6 speed car, so that kind of information helps me out.
The money that I would spend on one is right around the year change from L98 to LT1(got to sell the Jag first)

Well lookie there, I learnt something off of this here board

The longer you're on the forum, the more redundant it will seem. There really is no change here. We're stuck in time with cars from a limited time span with a limited number of mods. The only real change is that the cars get less reliable, and the members get younger. And every now and then something new is discovered, but rarely.

When easy redundant stuff comes up, let the new guys answer it, and save your breath for the advanced stuff, then everyone plays a part. Bogus's Faqqing sticky thread is more trivia/spec oriented, and doesn't address any tech questions afaik.

Otherwise we get tons of dupe threads and people getting upset because old timers (few left here) getting on them to use a search. Waste of space IMO.
Just a thought, as I said-Not trying to change anything, just interested in some feedback.
Ive noticed a lot of "old timers" not using the search function as well. So its not only junior members. You also have to consider that sometimes there is only one reply or no "real" reply to a thread. Which makes it necessary to repost a topic because somebody may be in need of URGENT help.
But you know what when in doubt, if you dont like the thread topic simply do not open the thread. Its simple to me... If you dont like the topic just ignore it. I see some threads that are kind of redundant as well but those very same "This motor vs. that", always has about 15 replies so obviously some other members are interested.
You have to remember the internet is not in danger of filling up or running out of space. Placing more rules doesnt really make it better.

What I reffering to is, the stock l98 vs lt1 which one is faster threads. I should have been more clear.

Yeah that one needs to stop. We all know the L98 is faster.

I agree with 87 Rag. It is important to see different questions and problems people come up against. You may see it several times and finally you can offer advice. Limiting discussion seems to go against a "discussion forum".
I try to use the search but sometimes it does not give you the specific info you need for you're particular situation and there are some on this forum that are very knowlegable and helpfull.

-- even though the answers are there, people think that their car, & their particular problem is special ( & they are ). As stated above, folks come here looking for input from other live owners, & not only an amassed volume of readable information. Corvettes like Harleys, are a lifestyle, & most folks who have one want to feel a part of it, so when they ask questions, thats their way of interacting with the Corvette Forum community.

All it would take is a quick crosslink to the thread where their answers would be. I understand the newcomer not knowing how to navigate the site, been there myself.

That is an atrocity...I mean, really, what rational human being could be such a jackass when you tried to help.

He is going to have a tough time getting help, or at least none too soon. Name calling is just rediculous, I have seen the same type of thing with others in the recent past who try to help and get that type of response. When someone acts like that I don't need a button to ignore that person in the future.
Again this just goes back to some common sense, (I'm sure Mr. Mojo will say read the sticky) Well if someone won't even read a thread on fixing or upgrading their own car, why would anyone think they will thread/sticky about forum ettiquette.

There is the other side of the coin: When a member answers a question or provides a link that will help, he should at least get "Thanks" in response.

Maybe just a little tweaking might help such as under tech there could be a brake only thread. Dunno.
Have to say this though, thanks to guys like Mojo, Vader (grumpy), 86, Compyell, this is the best and most entertaining forum I've ever used. I spend too much time here LOL.
When I need to know stuff and I find it, I copy and paste the text into notepad documents, name it, and store them in my Vette folder. Just a great place and thanks to all.

Banning topics isnt gonna help anything .... It will just make Mojo work a little more. There is always gonna be a new member who doesnt know squat and needs answers to the most benign questions.... I get sick of the "which offset do I need ?" ...seems like that comes up every other week, Its spelled out clear as day on AFS website. I just dont post in that thread..(.83 posts per day).. unless there is some misinformation being posted.
I'm not on this forum to bitch at newbies for not using the search or for asking stupid questions.... I'm here to expand my knowledge of Corvettes and ,if I can, guide someone in the right direction.

I agree its frustrating to see the same topics come up all the time, but as knowledgable members I think we should stay out of the stupid question post and chime in only when someone is being led astray

I mean seriously, I have seen guys post that they bought a tire simply because they liked the tread pattern. .... I just dont expect everyone to grasp the concept of doing a search before posting

for me, i do not see anything wrong with someone asking a question about "their" particular corvette, or their particular problem.

it is a way for them to be a part of the community. that is what this is about. if someone has a problem because their "sys" is flashing, they want to know why the "sys" is flashing on their car.... their own special corvette.

there is nothing wrong with searching in the forum the word "sys." but it is more a sense of belonging to a community of people on line at that moment.

i am sure you open your c4 discussion and may groan.. "here were go with that same dumb question, why don't they use the search"?

well wouldn't you all think at this point we have covered every topic of everything that has been ever asked about c4's? so we would just all use the search and no one would ever have any reason to post a new thread.

so i think everyone should ask away. and then every couple of weeks or so, we'll have another one of these threads, and we can discuss it.... kind of like the circle of c4 life...

now everyone go take a ride....

One advantage that no one has mentioned.
A new guy asks a "redundant" question. And in the responses someone near by may be able to help. A new freindship starts.
That wouldn't happen with out any kind of disscusion.
