I just had the carpet installed in my 1990 Vette. I bought a complete set and the installer said there was not any carpet included for the speakers. My speakers have something similar to carpet covering it and it needs replacement. Anyone know what type of material this is and where I can find it?
I've been hearing on the forums that nobody makes a speaker carpet.
Having said that, I called Corvette America on Mary Lou's recommendation at Al Knoch Interiors. She suggested that I order
a carpet sample before actually ordering the carpet set.
CA told me, when I called them, that their sample would come without the backing. Okay, fine. I'm curious now if that might be close enough to match what's currently on the speakers.
When it comes in, I'll compare it and let you know.

Following as I am having the same problem finding replacement fabric, Mine are sun faded and falling apart.
I am also replacing all of my carpet and I went to a local fabric store and purchased black speaker cloth, Looks really good. Do a search here as this was also covered about 2-3 months ago. This is where I got the idea for the speaker cloth.
"Speaker grill cloth" will yield many inexpensive solutions. Get black polyurethane to seal it to the plastic grill cover after folding it inside. Use lightweight spring clamps or pinch clips to hold the cloth taut.
Midamerica Motorworks (MAM) sells the speaker fabric (carpet) if you don't find it elsewhere. And, you may be able to get it in color to match the rest of the carpet too.
I just assembled the driver side after putting the new carpet on. You can see where I had to extend the clearance by 1/2 inch to clear my new speakers. I used a hot glue gun to attach the speaker cloth. I did wrap the speaker cover with.147 closed cell foam first to give the cloth some soft backing.
Thanks Hawkeye56
Just called MAM, they said they only have the carper for the front speaker covers but not the rear. I don't think you could use carpet on the rear as it would muffle the sound. Still looking for the non jute backed carpet/fiber.... Any ideas where to find this elusive fabric?

l too called around and had no luck finding any.
If you need it for the rear speakers covers, I would suggest calling Mirrock as Mark should have the covers.
