New rotor ?
I should be getting my zinc coated rotors from wholesale parts direct shortly. Should I burnish the surface with my sanding disc, or will that remove the zinc coating? Or- does it matter? I dont want the squeeks!

If it were me, I'd just wash them down really good with brake cleaner and a clean cotton rag and put them on. I'm not sure if sanding the rotors would be any good or not. I have been putting brakes on cars for years and never have had any squeels or problems after washing them well with brake cleaner.

hmmm, I read in various publications, inculing 101 Corvette Projects by,Richard Newton, that all, even new rotors should be scuffed to remove the directional finish. I tend to agree, but I havent dealt with zinc coatings.

I scuffed mine before I put them on. Any Zinc coating will wear off those areas pretty quickly anyway.

The pads will remove the zinc coating so once the rotors get wet, they will rust on the swept area. The rest of the rotor surface will not show rusting.
If you are also installing new pads, just put the old pads back on and let them scrape off the zinc. Install the new pads and bed them according to any procedures that come with the instructions.
