I have the graphite interior on my 87 Vert and was wondering if the carpet dye is any good ? I'm debating on whether to get a whole new carpet set or not? The back cargo area still looks good, but the front has been sun faded and caused it to become lighter with a hint of brown. Will the carpet dye cure this or is it better just to get a new set?

dude - have i got a deal for you. i'm getting ready to put new graphite carpet in my 85 coupe. the rear hatch area is all sun-faded, but the driver/passenger area is near mint (carpet savers used in the footwells). if you can hold off for awhile, it's yours - just pay the shipping. if interested, PM me...
How about changing the carpet color from grey to black. Will carpet dye look good or am I wasting my time? The carpet is in good shape, just dingy and dirty looking. And where do you get carpet dye?

Im sure you could do it. It might take more than one application to get the look you want. But you can pick up Carpet / Apholstry dye at autozone ect....

I think with the exception of the piece behind the seats, that will fit his vert.
I actually posted a thread last year telling how i dyed all of my carpets and door panels from brown to black. It worked great, went smooth, and has lasted! It's still black. Just make sure you leave the windows cracked open over night cause that sucker SMELLS!!! Unless of course you're into being high while driving.....

ha ha ha! Yeah, I'll see what she says. Go ahead and hold your breath and I'll get back to ya. Actually, I just needed something to cover a scratch on the paint. She just happened to be with me.

I agree with you! Just trying to get some ideas before I dump more money into cosmetic work. Every little bit helps. If only I can get all the little things that need to be fixed first before I can move onto bigger things like paint! I'm getting there...
IMO dye is only a short term band aid fix. I did mine, and it starts to fade again pretty soon. What happens is the dye doesn't penetrate the fibers and stays on the outside. Normal wear just flakes it off. With all of the anti-stain treatments put on materials these days, it makes it hard for the dye to penetrate. I'll be replacing mine this summer.
Where would I be able to buy carpet dye? I've got an '87 with grey interior. It's somewhat faded, but there is a noticeable stain I'd like to get rid of.
