ecklers 84-96 coupe rear window weatherstip didnt even think to see it up to the old one before trying to install. but when we got it in it has about 3 inches over hang on the outer side and about 3-4 inches on the upper part of the window
Just replaced the rear weatherstripping on my 86. I've had it for a while and never put it on. Can't remember where I got it, but it fit pretty good. I used 3m super weatherstripping adhesive. Just make sure you know where to put the adhesive, I've had a time scrubbing the overlapping adhesive off
I just replaced mine about a month ago.I bought it on ebay for $53.It is good quality but it was about 2`` too long.I put the bottom on first and worked my way around to the top.Make sure you get it tight in the corners. When I got to the top I cut a piece out of it.I cut it at the highest point so that water would shed to either side. With yours I would probably cut a little a time(since it is longer than mine was).I had to cut mine twice to get it just right.I used a razor knife to cut the soft part. And ahack saw for the stiff part.I didn`t have to use any sealer at the joint because it fit together good and tight.I only wish I had waited for warm weather.I had to run the car for 20 min. with the heater on high to get the rubber soft enough to close the hatch. It is still tight, but getting better. I think you should do fine.Just don`t cut off too much.

Shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't cut too much off.
I did mine month ago. It was ~3 inches too long, or it looked like at start.
Asked help from dealer (lonestar) and he told me to start from both corners at the same time, put some "grease" on it (there is some white grease left from old weatherstrip). When pulling towards to corners, just keep putting it to place.
For start, i was sure, it never ever will go there. But when we fight with it for a little time, it suddenly got in place. I believe, yours will do the same. DONT cut it before you are absolutely sure it won't fit.
I wouldn't cut it. If it is truly too long, contact Eckler's for a replacement. If you have a material tape measure (like those used in sewing) you can measure the area and compare to the wx strip. I installed one I picked up from Ecklers and it was fine.
As suggested, start at one corner and work across the top to the other corner then across the rear just loosely into position. Then go back over it and seat it down onto the lip. I would clean up the old sealant material first, I'd recommend 3M Adhesive Cleaner, it makes easy work of that mess and won't harm the finish. (Although after cleanup and before installation, I'd put a fresh coat of polish down you rarely get clean access to that area.
I should mention this just as a caution as well, the glass hatch is extremely heavy. I use a pole (like that from you paint roller) to block the hatch open, then with a small blade screwdriver pop one hatch strut at a time and place the new wx strip behind it. Put that strut back on and do the other side. Then start your fitment.
When you seat the new wx strip, it has sealant impregnanted inside you will heard it break the seal and ooze out as you work your way around.

thanks for the input. talked to ecklers and they say that it should fit tightly with out cutting so its back in the mail and hopefully the next one will fit properly.
